First, we want to say Thank you! All of you have given to help us reach our adoption goals. Your support and dedication to us is appreciated in ways I cannot even fully express. We really, really appreciate everything that you all have offered to us! Beyond just the monetary efforts you have provided, you have all offered support, hope and love. We have truly learned humility during our adoption journey, and part of that is due of each of you. Thank you.
Second, we wanted to let you know, that we are putting our adoption journey on hold. This does not mean that the door is closed, but for now -- in our current situation being military stationed overseas -- our options are very limited and we do not have a path available to us that either one of us is 100% comfortable with. We are still going to adopt, we can guarantee that. Currently we are only really able to adopt from two countries due to our age, and income restrictions. One country has requirements that we are not comfortable with, and the other country has closed the door on adoption for the time being -- and we are unsure when that door will reopen. We are on a time line, wanting to complete the adoption by summer so our child/ren would have at least 1 year with us before we moved. We are going to put this on hold until we arrive at our next duty station. A positive to this is that our age will be not be a factor for most countries any longer at that point. Plus we will have more time to build our savings to help pay for more of the adoption without relying so heavily on donations.

We will not be continuing with any more fund-raisers since our time line has widened and the amount of funds that we will need is uncertain. We do not want anyone to feel taken advantage of, or that they donated to an unworthy cause so we are going to return all donations.
We also raised money through fund-raisers. Due to the way that money was raised (Scentsy, Pampered Chef, Lia Sophia, Photography, yard-sales etc.) we want to donate that money to another very deserving family that is stationed in Germany and adopting an infant with down syndrome. We have been blessed so far, that all of the money we have spent for the adoption has come out of our savings. All of the funds we had raised or that had been donated to our family are sitting safely in our savings account. We have offered to return all donations that were donated directly to us.
Since we do not have a commitment on a child/ren and we do not know when a commitment can or will be made, we are not comfortable keeping these funds. These funds were raised and/or donated to help us give two orphans a home and we feel by donating it to the Solomons it still going towards that desire.
The earliest we believe we can start this process again will be summer of 2013.

ReplyDeleteI'm confused. Why do you only have the option of 2 countries? I can think of more than 2 that don't care about your age. As long as you meet USCIS age requirements, there are several countries that work with you. Living in Germany is also NOT a deal breaker. In fact, it'd make travel a lot cheaper! I totally respect if you feel like God is telling you to wait. But, if this is a decision based on you feeling like you keep getting stop signs thrown in your face from people and not necessarily God, then I'm happy to point you in the direction of some other options!
