Welcome!
Adoption is an exciting journey! We are at the very beginning of our journey, but are committed and chugging through at a fast pace. Our goal is to get through all of the paperwork that we need to do and get it into the hands of the people who require it so we are waiting on them, and not have them waiting on us. While doing this we are in full fund-raising mode. We have a fund-raiser going through Scentsy (see previous post), family members starting fund-raisers in their communities, and family/friends announcing donations to help us. We are also starting the tedious applications for grants that are available to adopt children.
First a little information about us. This is a new blog, and a little bare. Please be patient with us as we try to keep this up to date with all of the other balls we are juggling at the moment. Currently my husband is a SSgt in the Air Force and we are stationed at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. I work for a University on the same base. We have a little less then 2 years before we PCS (move to another location). We have decided that now is the perfect time for us to start this journey and have stepped into the waters of international adoption.
We have our hearts set on a sibling set from Eastern Europe. We do know their country of location, but do not wish to post it on the world wide web. :) They have already been separated (due to the brother's age) and are in different orphanages but are still in the same region. We want to reunite these children and provide them a loving forever home with us! We are working with an agency to "claim" these children, and hope to have that process completed in the next week.
Our official home study is on Thursday. This is a a little challenging for us since we are private people. To have an agency digging through your personal life, and questioning decisions you have made is hard. But I know we need to get out of our comfort zone so that we can welcome these two children into our home.
While working through our home study paperwork we are also working with USCIS (formally INS) to be allowed by the U.S. to bring these children back and have them become U.S. Citizens. It's a lot of formality and red-tape, but we are pushing through it.
This weekend we are doing paper work, preparing for our home study, and working on fund-raising ideas. Any ideas you have that you would like to share are greatly appreciated!
