Our Journey

7 days with George...

George is pretty awesome and easy going 7 year old.  I can't believe it has already been a week since we picked him up from his orphanage.  Time sure is flying!  Before we know it he will be driving, going to college, getting married...

He isn't very talkative but has said "bye" once, and "da" a few times (which means yes).  He is making more noise and loves to laugh.  He brings sunshine into the room!

He also has very expressive eyes!  He does this squint/wink whenever he is concerned about something (normally new food) that makes me smile every time.

He loves cars. He loves being in cars.  He loves watching cars.  He loves playing with cars.  He loves waving at cars. He laughs when his sister makes car noises.  He's definitely a car guy.  However, he gets carsick.  One of his favorite games is to wave at the people in the cars when we are walking, and when they wave back he squeals and claps.

He really is an easy kid to entertain.  Everything is new and wonderful.

He is a super picky eater though.  We are struggling with feeding him well-balanced meals, and have settled with getting him calories for now, and worry about what he is eating later.  He loves pretzels, croissants, cucumbers, tomatoes, and donuts. He smells everything to judge if it is worthy to put into his mouth (most things fail this inspection).  He will push his plate away when he is done eating.  He loves juice (especially peach), and water.  He refuses milk unless it is chocolate milk -- but he still unsure but follows Gergana's lead and drinks it very slowly.

He LOVES bath time.

He is very independent but needs help.  He likes to dress himself (which is easier for him when we have clothes that are his size).  He is currently a size 5 (we brought all size 6/7 with us).

He enjoys getting his hair brushed and likes to have clips put in like his sister.

He copies his sister.  He idolizes her and wants to do everything that she is doing.

George signs for more, all-done, and eat.  He knows nose, eyes, ears, hair, hands, feet, up/down, on/off, and open/close in English.

When you explain something to him, he squints at you and won't do it immediately, but a few hours later he'll throw it back at you.  It just takes him a bit of time to process.

He sleeps like a champ.

He is mostly potty trained, and is learning to use the big toilet (instead of a potty chair).  We actually purchased him a potty chair the other day to help with the poop situation.  He was super excited at the store, helped carry it home, put it in the bathroom and then refused to use it.  He actually pushed it away with his foot and pooped (for the 1st time) on the big potty.

He loves to go for walks.

He loves animals and enjoys watching birds.

He is a huge fan of escalators, elevators and quarter rides.

He loves to be tickled and will actually sign for "more."

He is pretty awesome, and are excited that he is forever a part of our family!

We are very thankful!

Love,

Lura
